About Us

The Merchant Services area provides support to self-sustaining departments that accept/process credit card payments for goods, services, and/or events. The Merchant Services team serves as a liaison between the merchant (department) and FIU’s current acquiring bank/processor. The team’s objective is to assist with the overall merchant account lifecycle from the initial set-up to the account closure. Furthermore, we assist with placing equipment orders, provide advice and/or approval on third party vendor credit card processing solutions, and guidance on adhering to the University’s policies, procedures, and maintaining compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements.

If you need additional assistance with this area, please email our Merchant Services Team.

The PCI DSS is a set of comprehensive requirements for enhancing cardholder data security (intended to help organizations proactively protect cardholder data) that was developed by the founding payment brands of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. All merchants and service providers are required to comply with the PCI DSS. Failure to comply with the PCI DSS may result in significant fines, legal liability, reputation damage and loss of business. Cardholder data is of high value to malicious individuals because the information can be used to generate factious payment cards and process fraudulent transactions. Therefore, a merchant must ensure that appropriate safeguarding measures are in place to protect cardholder data.

Here are Ten Best Practices to comply with PCI DSS (PDF).

If you need additional support with these requirements, please email our PCI Compliance Team.
