Effective January 6, 2023, Alexandra Mirabal was appointed Associate Vice President and University Controller. Alexandra joined Florida International University in December of 2010 as the Associate Controller for Financial Accounting and Reporting Services, where she supervised the accounting and reporting staff in areas such as construction, financial reporting, financial statement preparation and analysis, journal entries and reconciliations. In 2017 Alexandra was promoted to Deputy Controller, where she was responsible for the management and supervision of all areas of accounting and reporting in the Controller’s Office, including developing recommendations for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Alexandra is well known in the FIU community as a seasoned and professional manager. In addition to being a Panther alumnus (BA Accounting, 1992) with over 25 years of professional experience in governmental and public sector accounting, Alexandra has held senior-level management positions in the Office of the Controller for the past 11 years.
Prior to joining the FIU family, Alexandra spent five years with the Miami-Dade County Finance Department where she was an Accounting Manager and Assistant Portfolio Manager and 10 years with the School Board of Miami-Dade County where she held positions as Director, Budget Analyst, and Audit Coordinator. In addition, Alexandra spent three years in private accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant..
